DH helmets

Finally, after all this time there is going to be a helmet designed specificaly for DH skating. Its made by predator designs and was developed with the help of Dave Price and soem of the Timeship crew. Its supposed to be the perfect balance between the protection of a Bell drop and the low profile large field of view you get from an 4fight or a Charly.check it out.

Looks like a motorcycle

Looks like a motorcycle helmet with a lengthened, motocross style nose. $300 seems a stiff price for a bike helmet with no air vents. I'm sure its light and aerodynamic but not having my head turn into a sauna is nice too. Strictly for the hardcore then?

that's down to opinion.

Aero, plays only a small part, adding vents would add drag and remember your not going to be wearing this helmet for more than 10mins straight unless you've found a hill that takes that long to skate down. The difference between a helmet like this and motocross/fullfaced street bike helmets is 'A' the weight and 'B' the unobstructed field of view. MX/motocycle/dh mountain bike helmets have a 'nose' that is designed to protect your nose and mouth but in doing so that 'nose' blocks your view of the road from your toes out to about 2 metres. Helmets like the Predator/Icaro/Charly have a nose that comes down around your chin allowing you to see the nose of your board and 30m of the road infront of you all while in the tuck. If you look at Andrew's helmet in the very biginning of 'MT Rapeyou' you can see wot i mean about the nose of the helmet, you can see his whole face. The most important thing is that you where a helmet that 'you' feel safe in if that means a motorcycle helmet great, if its a dhmountain biking helmet great and if its a specialty helmet like the predator/Icaro/Charly thats great too. Icaro's and Charly's were designed as paragliding helmets, Icaro accepts that people use their products for Dh skating and promote it, Charly on the other hand denounces the use of their helmets by dh skaters because they're not deisgned for the impacts associated with DH.

“Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting...'Holy Mother of God...What a Ride!!!''

well stated

I hadn't considered the drop nose design as crucial. While I question the wisdom of focusing attention on the space immediately in front of the board (on a bike its usually too late to avoid anything you've noticed that close to the front wheel) I can agree that attention to/visibility of the road surface is more a factor than it would be on a bike.

When you're riding or racing

When you're riding or racing in a pack, you need to be able to see everything between you and the rider infront of you, blind spots can be dangerous.
