I wouldn't say its fun, but
I wouldn't say its fun, but as far as pushing your limits goes, its cool. I would recomend anyone thinking about doing this begin training imediately!!!!And you need to learn to push well with both feet. You won't catch me taking part in this but those of you that do you have my full support and much respect. Perhaps I take part as support crew.

sweeeet
what would you suggest to do to train?
training
depending how much skating you're used to right now, just do some longer skates 4-5 times a week, taking days off when you feel sore. don't go at it too hard to begin with so you don't blow out some leg muscle/tendon/testicle.
on the day of the ultra itself, just pace steady. the tricky thing is scouting out a decent course to skate through the night!
lot more preparation tips here:

ride for ages
and realy really far and practice on all sorts of areas flats downhill up hill you will encounter it all doing this

yup, push and push and push
yup, push and push and push until you can push no more. find a nice gradual incline and push up it over and over. learn to push from both sides too.

id like to give it a go
im in auckland, and id have a couple of mates who might be keen
If people are serious about
If people are serious about doing this, I would be more than happy to run support over the 24 hrs. I would recomend using the bike/foot path that runs along tamaki dr. from the WestPac heliport to St heliers bay. Its smooth, no major up or down hill sections, its well lit, lots of public restrooms and drinking fountains.

about how long is this part?

From the heliport to
From the heliport to St.Heliers and back is about 14kms if i recall correctly.

i think that would be a grate ideal to do that!

Its an idea that i could be
Its an idea that i could be keen for.. not sure about riding for 24hours solid but it def be keen to have a crack at riding.. need to scout out some decent paths to ride.. i dont really fancy riding around the roads of chch for 24 hours but i know of some decent bike paths out my way that could be do-able...
Nat ill be in touch.. considering a ride evening... one of these evenings coming up as the tide is not good for kitesurfing anymore...! haha
busy week
Well things have really changed for me since the original plans, we're still doing our "little" event here in Seattle on the 3rd, then the following week I'm heading over to the UK for their Skaiti event!! Not sure how much petrol will be left in my tank to skate that 2nd one for any major distance, going for the group vibe and will see how the body holds out. Anyway here's the link to all that jazz, they've raised some serious support cash!!

So I'm not doing much planning for our local ultraskate, just going to wake up, bring lots of food and water, and skate. And skate. And skate. Eric Lowell from Texas and his buddy are coming up, as well as Mr. Subsonic Scott and G-Bomb Mark, a couple of Northwest board builders.
Would be cool if you guys do one even as a kind of prep / training for something bigger later. A slow-paced 100-miler is a great first-time goal, especially if you don't feel "trained up" to it -- some of you guys clocked close to 150 on the first one over there!
zee, im up for 100 miler in
zee, im up for 100 miler in chhc. i know that its always good to skate at the same time as James and Eric. they send good vibes across the ocean.
