Freeride offering, pre-pro

Putting in my own progress report regarding the freeride board discussion earlier this year. This is my pre-production model (current name, Emilie) that I'll be dragging around to whatever Wellington meets I can for input before I finalize measurements. As it sits:
total length: 1090mm
grip'd deck: 750mm
drop: 25mm
concave: 12mm
material is gaboon ply core, 100mm carbon strip under s-glass skins.
The concave will likely be more aggressive on the final model. The "duckbill" tips may be getting simplified and narrowed as well; there has been some interest in dropping the trucks through and I have my doubts the current tips will get away without hanger bite.
Feedback would be welcomed.

Not to shabby!! Would be
Not to shabby!! Would be great to see some shots of it in action now... What thickness ply did you use to press the drop into it?
6x layers of 1.8mm ply.
6x layers of 1.8mm ply. I'll try to get some action shots this week if the weather holds.

How'd those actions shots turn out?

a little blurry (still working out the aperture/shutter speed thing) but pretty good. NNO was giving me issues last night or they'd be up right now. Assuming all's well tonight I'll post the best 2-3 up this evening.
looks sick!
i agree with having drop through mount combined with the drop down it would be sweet!
double drops
Nice build! I like the duck bills, maybe this board could be come the Donald?
Double drops are one way to get low but you get a lot of torsional flex (the enemy of responsiveness) and also have very little material around a high stress area so reinforce it with some fibres and it should be strong enough.

not a Disney fan
Maybe not Donald but I am a fan of Duck Dodgers?

As for the double drops I will definitely look at increasing the fibre weight around the drops. I've kept the "neck" of the drop as wide as possible and set the trucks back as far from the tips as I dared without tempting wheelbite, both to keep as much meat around the truck area as possible but I agree its a weak spot.
Thanks for the input, its most appreciated!
ahh i see
thanks jestah but now you got me thinking
why would there be more torsional flex? even if it was a stiff deck to begin with?
ethan
torsion
torsion is a tricky one... its really took me a good few years to understand it! Because torsional stiffness is related to cross sectional area by removing a slot creates very short fibres and a drematic redaction to core in a high stress area. If you think that the little bit of meat left around the hole has to deal with the same stress as the big wide middle of the board maybe then you can see why it would flex.
clear as mud?
