Bearings cleaning and relubing

what do u guys think is the best thing to clean bearings with and what do u think is the best thing to relube them with?

Bones

Got to get bones speed cream. its like $6 from any skate shop.

Terps to strip all the grime then a drop of lube in each bearing.

Quality finish?

I pop the casing shell off the bearings. (the rubber ring protecting the balls :P) with like a nail or something then spin them thru from two-stroke petrol (4 stroke is all good but cos two stroke has more oil in it) then put in some bike lube and spin them a bit. THen shell em back up and they roll swift silent deadly man.

Skate Hard, Have fun!

How often should you clean

How often should you clean them? Mine look pretty dirty on the outside after like 5 days of skating. It has been a bit dusty the last few weeks.

I clean mine every month or

I clean mine every month or 2 or after a skate in the rain

Cleaning fun!

-Take your bearings out
-pop the rubber seal
-soak in meths(or other high % alcohol) for a few hours...get an old tooth brush and clean em up(while still in the meths)
-dry em with a rag
-use sowing machine oil(very thin oil..bike oil is too thick)

I do this when every my bearings get wet or every 2 months..whatever comes first :P

xD

Bumping an old thread here.

Bumping an old thread here. What solvents are good to use on Biltin bearings specifically? I saw acetone mentioned on the Fish, went and bought some nail polish remover, only to find it's full of aloe vera and fragrance and shit, so now my bearings smell like flowers - would nail polish remover have stuffed them up with the extra stuff in it or not? Would meths, kero or turps be ok to use on them in the future?
Also, anyone know where I could get one of the bolts that come with Biltin bearings? My board came complete, but I want the bolt to make a cleaning bottle, like this one - http://www.silverfishlongboarding.com/Articles/Tech_Articles/Econo-Tech_...

The best stuff to clean

The best stuff to clean bearings with is Xylene or Xylenol, you can find it at bunning/mitre10/Placemakers in the paint section under the name Kumclean. Xylene is whats used to thin out automotive paint, its also used to remove dirt and grease from metallic surfaces prior to painting. once you're satisfied that your bearings are clean leave them to air dry for few hours(out side if possible, xylene is pretty potent stuff good to wear gloves too) then re-apply your desired oil/grease/lube.
as for the cleaning bolt, just get yourself a 8mm x 110mm long bolt and nut at one of the above mentioned stores.

Awesome thanks, I'll look

Awesome thanks, I'll look into getting that solvent next payday. Will that remove grit from the bearings? They don't look dirty per se, but they sound like there's tiny pieces of grit in them. And do you reckon I've damaged them by using nail polish remover instead of pure acetone?

if they're built-ins, don't

if they're built-ins, don't worry. to get the grit out just keep rinsing them to get the grit out. Xylene will take care of the nail polish remover no probs.

I use paint stripper

Paint stripper works well then put speed cream in ater that if you want
