Come celebrate the 8 hour working day by making your way to Auckland for Labour Weekend to participate in some racing and free riding at Auckland’s best spots.

Just a quick update on the details of the Jaffa Roll:
The plan for the weekend is
Saturday:
Free riding in the morning at all the best local spots. There will be something for everyone fast hills, flat places for dancing, bowl riding, wicked drifting corners and some nice mellow garages for the parking garage virgins.
Point to Point race: 4pm. Course is now around William Pickering Drive to avoid pedestrian traffic.
Here is the link
http://www.wises.co.nz/l/Auckland/Albany/William+Pickering+Drive/#c/2rc0...
Course is Two and three quarters laps of
Starting Douglas Alexander Pde, left up William Pickering Drive, right at the top, down Bush Road, left into Taradale, follow down to Rosedale, left into Alexander Pde. Third lap finishes at Taradale road.
Each lap is 3.7 km.
Must stay on footpath everywhere except up Douglas Alexander Pde and William Pickering where you can go in cycle lane on the road.
1st Place in the 12km earns a brand new set of ABEC11 Strikers. The first female home in the 12km takes home a set of Pink Seven-Os. Helmets are mandatory.

Sunday:
Downhill race: Course T.B.C will run a couple of course past Jestah (if you dont mind) to find the best course. 1st Place is a set of JimZ Speed Bushings.

After this there will be a BBQ lunch at my flat in Albany. There will be a small fee to cover the costs of food. Any fantastic cooks that want to cook let me know.

Slide School: After Lunch Sparkie Markie and Myself will teach beginner sliders a few basic moves.
Slide Competition: Two classes Beginner and Advanced. Everyone will have 3-5 runs and then your fellow riders will vote with the best three sliders in each class battling it out for a set of Sergio wheels with another 3 runs. The Hill for the advanced sliders will be Corinthian Drive in Albany and the beginner’s hill is Oracle drive. Helmets and slide gloves are mandatory.

Monday: More free riding

Out of Towners:
Accommodation: I can put up ten riders on couches and mattresses at my flat. First in first served email me at dangrant@ihug.co.nz.
If you need a lift from the airport let me know and I should be able to pick you up too.

Secret Race: We need to be ninjas with a disregard for your own body to pull this off. It has to be done at night or early in the morning so the riders who want to do it will decide when suits them to race. Entry is $5 bucks prize money to be spilt 60-30-10 between the top three place getters (or used to bail people out of jail). More information when you get into town.

The whole weekend is very flexible so the riders have a wicked weekend all suggestions are welcome.

Any more updates will be in this forum topic

www.bombardierlongboards.co.nz

Look forward to it.

Look forward to it. I should be able to get up to Auckland. The secrete race sounds cool. Any more details on the downhill race, speeds, course??

I'd be happy to help out too. I'm pretty useless at sliding, but anything else?

Good idea posting it up early. Give people plenty of time to sort out transport, accommodation...

thanks boby ill let you know

thanks boby ill let you know if i need some help. Hopefully with accommodation everyone can be put up at Aucklanders houses.

Sounds cool. The DH race

Sounds cool. The DH race looks good. Is it from the orange houses toward the Sugar Factory? If so that right hand corner looks sweet. My names 'william' by the way. Boby's just a username on the fish, haha.

Yeah I'm hopefully going to try stay at a friends place, maybe. I'll see closer to the time

sweet

what speeds would you expect in the DH?
Are there corners? How long?

Will do my best to make it!

its about 600-700 meters

its about 600-700 meters depending where we finish. The road surface changes to chip seal just after the bridge so if will be up to races if they want to finish before this or after.
The road has a couple of corners, one that is pretty narly plus a bridge. Check out Colonial Road on Google Earth to get an idea. The start is from the orange houses.
The format of the race will be either man on man heats or 3 man heats depending on what everyone is comfortable with after a practice session.
The road is semi-private with very little car traffic so we shouldnt be bothered with cars on the road on a sunday morning. To make sure the plan is to have spotters at the top and bottom with radios to make sure no cars go up/down when a run takes place.
Sorry dont know any speeds as havent measured it yet when it stops raining I get go out and find out.

ops forgot to put its

ops forgot to put its Colonial Road, Birkenhead, North Shore City. For Aucklanders its the Sugar Factory Run

Sounds great

I just looked on Google earth, is the top of the hill where those 4 big orange houses are??

www.bombardierlongboards.co.nz

The downhill starts from the

The downhill starts from the first of 4 big orange houses down towards the sugar factory but the hill goes further up. There is a speed bump just before the first orange house so we cant start any further up than that.

speed bumps

speed bumps can be fun, so long as you're not doing more than about 35kph or are comfortable air-born.

i dont think you can ride

i dont think you can ride over these ones. They are the plastic ones that are screwed into the road.

not a problem

maybe someone can find out what the bolt sizes are so that we could temporarilly remove them for the race...

If we cant get them out

If we cant get them out there is a small gap either side of them you could ride past them. It would be very intresting at speed with a few people on the road. When you get back speedy ill show you the hill.

lookin forward to getting

lookin forward to getting back, i'm frying in the floida sun for the last month, good thing Redbull pays well. I'll get in touch with ya prob 24 or 25 of sept. untill then keep it rollin like donkey kong

Sounds like fun guys. ill

speed

any tests on speed down the sugar run yet?
I should start practicing my DH...

Will the runs be timed?

should have abit of info on

should have abit of info on that after the weekend. Hopefully hitting the road with speedy and hes alot more skilled than me at DH and will have a better idea.
The runs wont be timed. Looking at running 3 man heats and somehow working the draw so that everyone gets heaps of runs on the hill not straight knockout.

testing at the sugar factory....

Hey Dan I'm outta town this weekend, could make it to the sugar factory some time during next week. does this work for you?

Looks like rain tomorrow

Looks like rain tomorrow anyway. Im free both tuesday and thursday nights after six. Should be nice and light with daylight savings starting.

sugar factory ........

Ok here it is. In my humble and un-expert opinion the speeds at the sugar factory, should you lack common and self preservation senses, minimal braking and a good tuck..... to easily break the 70 kph mark. If the air and road surface are cool and you can tuck from the start then you may break 80 kph. on the lighter side the road surface is primo tar seal, graet for racing.

Its Fast

Did a couple of runs with speedy tonight (actually I footbraked most of the way). Its around 60-75 depending on how much footbraking you do. Speedy will be able to give a better idea as he actually skated it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDobOtvBV1c

And if i helped would i still be able to take part in the Advance slide comp??/

www.bombardierlongboards.co.nz

Sweet Video and nice hill

Sweet Video and nice hill would love to come down and slide that hill sometime. Your help would greatly be appreciated. I’m pretty average at sliding myself will be even more average by the time the Comp comes. I’m sliding on four flat spotted wheels to try and save some half decent wheels for it.
Only looking at teaching the basics on heelside, toeside and Coleman slides. Well what I know about them. You can definitely still do the advanced comp you would be hot favourite to take it out as I haven’t seen any other NZ slide videos except yours and Jestah’s one where he crashes into the parked car.

Deal

Sweet thanks for the positive feedback!! and yeah i'd be happy to help teach some slides. Sounds like a good deal. Havnt seen many NZ sliders either. But hopefully after the Jaffa roll well spread the stoke of sliding!!

www.bombardierlongboards.co.nz

crap!

That is way fast.

Do you expect that many people will be able to handle racing at those speeds? I wouldn't mind betting only speedy and jestah would be good enough (I've never gone above 50, though think i could handle a bit more speed so long as I actually get some practice)

Backup Hill

There will be a backup hill if there isnt much intrest in racing the sugar factory. I was really trying to aim the downhill at the more experienced guys but if theres only going to be a couple of people that can handle it Ill change the hill. The race format will be slightly different if we change hills too. If we dont race the Sugar Factory there will definately be a session there sometime over the weekend and then you can pick how far up you want to go from.
Ill try get a big update done before Friday with lots of details.

Driving up

Jestah is driving up from wellington - probably the day before - anyone want a ride up?

We want 4 people in the car if possible.

I'm Out. and I'm not happy about it.

unfortunatly I gotta pull out of the event. My father-in-law's 60th is sat avo-night in whakatane. There will be other races, but the old boy is only gonna turn 60 once. so best of luck to you all, and remember ...Hollywood thrills or Hospital bills!!!

speedy .... dont be a wimp

then you will have to race me hung over on on Sunday morning! deal ... *shakes hand* DEAL!! miwhahah ahahha ahhaha

my purse....

Sorry mate, like i said the old boy is only gonna be 60 once. but i look forward to you seeing me ride away from you at the next event. We will race, oh yes we will race. (insert evil grin here).

postponement if crap??

I was just checking the weather for tomorrow and i know its early in the week but it said that friday is ment to be real heavy rain in Auckland aswell as Hamilton. Could just be a friday thing but if it happens over the weekend what will happen?

www.bombardierlongboards.co.nz

Garage Attack

If the weather prevents outside riding we will take it all inside.

There will be a bunch of races at various garages around town to determine the King/Queen of the Garages. The prizes that we have for the other races that dont get run will then be used for the King of the Garages.

deal!

Sweet man that sounds awesome :D
