Top or drop, what do you like and why....
Moved from this tread ( please read before posting)

top mounts
right at the top where they should be haha
why? because they kick ass
agreed (again)
why do they kick ass?
come on give us some tech geeking about leverage, better traction due to less side loading...
INFORM the masses, educate the masses, teach the masses and sell topmounts to the people or some lowered lover is going to get in there before you!
top mount rules
top mount are better because they grip round the corners but you can still slide them if you try, and a lot of top mounts come with adjustable wheel base
i am with api on this. top
i am with api on this. top mounts are the way to go. more traction and better lean.
hypocrit
u have a drop-through and drop. you have a topmount yet you dont ride it. see the flaw?
i have both and prefer top
i have both and prefer top mount. I have to work a bit more (or differntly?) to get it sideways then my double drop but I think the advantages (grip especially) outweigh the disadvantages, or advantages that drops have (being easier to drift/slide/be more stable). Any board can be slid and good riders can slide a grippier topmount. I also prefer the range of wheel base options on top (and drop too) vs drop through mount. But hey i'll ride anything i can afford haha
right tool for the job
I like a drop for the stability but a top for the feel. It depends on the road.
Absolutely. “The purpose
Absolutely.

i can go just as fast on a topmount.
i've seen people do 110km on a topmount aswell. topmounts just take longer to get used to at speed but they can be taken to just as fast speeds and be more responsive at those speeds.

In regards to chopping my BHNC, what would you topmount fans recommend for the wheelbase? 29" seems rather popular lately. I'm not overly skilled, though.

try 31,30,29 then...CHOP!

different slide characteristics
good call,,,
see what works for you....
IMHO wb should take into account the riders dimensions not the other way round.
29 will grip
like crazy thats quite short
shape it like a roger bro rb deck but to 29 if you want it that length or have multiple options?
i think she meant wheelbase?
i think she meant wheelbase? if not then yea thats real short
yeah i guessed that
it would be short as hell if the deck was 29inch
PUT THAT THANG ON CENTRAX
PUT THAT THANG ON CENTRAX AND NEVER SLIDE!
ever ridden centrax?
ever ridden centrax?
you are about to make a good
you are about to make a good point, i have never ridden them
what is the current wheel
what is the current wheel base?
Yup, talking wheel
Yup, talking wheel base.
Currently it's 34.75" to be exact. Personally I find that a little tooooo long.

ive got a chopped down board
ive got a chopped down board which has a 27 inch wheel base which ive taken to 55 maybe? and seemed stable but sketchy at the same time haha mind over matter. extremely fun board to have for just jamin the local hills with friends if you feel like a change
some reasons I think top mounts are better
-they grip the best
-they can run a short wheel base and still have more foot room then a dropped board or drop thru with the same length w.b
-they can run multiple w.b's to get a different feel in ride from the same board
-you don't see drop thru or dropped slalom boards because they wouldn't be as responsive
-they carve the best because you dont have to lean as much to get them to steer
-easiest to make
I ride one and Im at the perfect age where i know everything so therefore i have to be right
ill post up more reasons as i think of more
Drop thrus
Drop thrus are alot less tiring to push
nice point
they are, dropped and drop decks both are easier than top mounts for long distance kicking which is always good for your legs if you are kicking to a hill or through a country.
I think thats the only advantage though.
Some guy won a recent 30km
Some guy won a recent 30km push marathon on a top mount. Depends on how you're conditioned to the different movements of pushing a drop or top.

I like....
My top-mounted switch on indys and zombies 'cos it's just plain good fun.....

its all personal preference
and anyone who says that x type board is better in all situation is an idiot
it all comes down what you are trying to do, what reaction you want out of your board and how the rider feels on the board.
a topmount is going to be more responsive, give you more grip and give more foot room but is a pain if you have to push for over half an hour to get any where
drops thru boards are more stable (within reason), more slide, less foot room, going to be lower for pushing (this high can be adjusted further by putting washers between the baseplate and the board)
drop decks are much like drop thrus but non adjustable and can give foot pockets that some riders like
double drops obviously are the combination of drop thrus and drop decks
pick the deck that is right for you and the disciplines you intend to use it for not the deck that is right for someone else.
if you dont like a type of board dont ride it.
topmounts seam to be the current flavor of the month

thats why
there is the concept of a 'quiver'
I skateboard and i like having the best kind of board for the terrain/discipline i am skating.
If i had to choose one board (excluding slalom and park) it would be a drop through with a wee bit of drop only then because it gives me most options. topmount for grip, drop through for slidey fun and lowered for pushing distance.
But I don't have to choose one so that is why i have a couple of setups.
slalom and park are a different thing altogether. There are no such things as drop through slalom or park, so should not even enter this discussion. Calling them topmount is also ridiculous too.

Amen to that!!

Found this on silverfish yesterday
plush mount
isn't plush mount the best of both, just because its bang in the middle?
never having ridden one its just a thought...
my 2 cents
very very slight drop decks killswitch lamby etc no more than 1". still got plenty of traction but have pockets(bit between drop and concave) which hold your feet in place,
thing i hate about drop decks is not being able to stand over the front truck in a tuck.
biggest thing for traction is wheels
big drop decks ie switch feel like ****, there's no leverage
Really...?
Coz I ride a Dually just a longer switch and don't have any leverage problems, but I'm also nearly 6' and 84kg plus rock 83a JimZ bushings.

you weigh alot more than me
im 60kgs and 6ft, this is probably why(i've never owned a switch but have ridden one so bushings might change things if i set them up for me)
i ride 80a shr elims roadside on paris 195s
its also the hammocky feeling how they swing instead of dive, makes the center very stable
The only thing I can think
The only thing I can think of that hasn't been said here is that dropdecks are easier to footbrake cos you're right by the ground already, like with the long distance pushing thing.
I personally prefer topmounts because I like the responsiveness they give. My dropdeck just feels flat and dead, yet the same truck and wheel setup comes alive on a topmount with no tweaking at all. My drop-thru died after a month so I haven't had long enough on that yet to decide if I prefer it to top mount or not. Regrettably, my drop-deck refuses to die, I may have to kill it with fire in the end.
Drop
Drop through FTW !

Why?
Why?
(my guess is that they are the boards you own)
If they are for the win then explain it.
